Wanda Martin Obituary

Wanda Virginia Martin, 77, of Pearisburg, Va., departed this life on Wednesday, August 12, 2009, at her home after a battle with cancer, in the loving care of her family. Born in Bluff City on August 4, 1932, she was a daughter of the late Sherman Elmer and Nora Mayo Parker and was also preceded in death by a son, Timothy Ray Parker; and sisters, Gladys Wilson, Cora Lee Martin, and Ruth Perdue. She leaves to cherish her memory her beloved husband of 46 years, the Rev. Thomas (Tom) Martin; four daughters and one son, Regina Tabor and husband, Joe, of Dublin, Venus Parker, of Portsmouth, Howard (Peanut) Tabor and wife, Bobbie, of Portsmouth, Winky Addison, of Pulaski, and Tina Ballard, of Pearisburg; one stepdaughter, Robin Lynn Martin, of Max Meadows; six grandchildren, Jason Tabor and wife, Jennifer, of Radford, Angalina Martin and husband, Tony, of Pembroke, Matthew Tabor and wife, Kristina, of the United States Air Force, Italy, Timothy Addison, of Pulaski, Joshua Tabor, of Portsmouth, and Ethan Ballard, of Pearisburg; one stepgrandchild, Wendy Myers, of Jacksonville, Fla.; seven great-grandchildren, Dylan Spencer, Kiersten Martin and Logan Martin, of Pembroke, Justin and Jackson Tabor, of Radford, and Alyssa and Keira Tabor, of Italy; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Irene and Minor Jones, of Pearisburg; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Robert and Barbara Martin, of Narrows; two sisters, Hazel Clyburn, of Moundsville, W.Va., and Martha Brooks, of Roanoke; and one brother, Elmer Parker of California. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. on Saturday, August 15, 2009, in Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church at Bane with burial following in Sunrise Memory Gardens in Rich Creek. The family will receive friends at the church two hours before the services. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital or to Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church in memory of Wanda. The family wishes to express their heart felt thanks to all who sent cards, said prayers, and showed love and support throughout Wanda's life and illness. In My Pocket

I have memories in my pocket.
They rattle among the change.

My memories of you are treasures I carry wherever I go.

They are stored in bits and pieces, parts of a beautiful whole
They give me comfort when I think I am alone.

Yes, I have memories in my pocket, like so much other stuff I keep there.

But of all the treasures I have, it’s the memories of you that are the most precious.
