Earnest Harris Obituary

Mr. Earnest Richard Harris, 80, of Meadows of Dan, Va., passed away on Wednesday, August 12, 2009, at Moses Cone Memorial Hospital in Greensboro, N.C. He was born in Floyd County, Va., on January 29, 1929, to the late George Washington Harris and Liza Alderman Harris. In addition to his parents, Mr. Harris was preceded in death by three sisters, Aldean Craig, Arlie Conner and Odgen Pickerel; and one brother, Murken Harris. He retired from United Elastic Corporation as a machinist. Mr. Harris is survived by his wife, Hope Hubbard Harris, of the home; one son, Ernest Dean Harris, of Greensboro; one granddaughter, Melissa Dawn Harris, of Floyd; one greatgranddaughter, Isobel Harris; and one sister, Sybil H. Mize, of Bassett. A memorial service for Mr. Harris will be held 3 p.m. on Friday, August 14, 2009, at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with Elder Edward Bowman officiating. Military Rites will be conducted by the Patrick County Veterans Memorial Honor Guard. Burial will be private. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Vesta Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 238, Vesta, Va. 24177. Online condolences may be sent to the family by visiting www.moodyfuneralservices.com

Ernie, I have just learned of the death of your father. I know this is an enormous loss, but you may be comforted by the knowledge that he left the world better than he found it. My sincere condolences to you and your family.
