Earnest Richard Harris

Mr. Earnest Richard Harris, 80, of Meadows of Dan, Va., passed away on Wednesday, August 12, 2009, at Moses Cone Memorial Hospital in Greensboro, N.C. He was born in Floyd County, Va., on January 29, 1929, to the late George Washington Harris and Liza Alderman Harris. In addition to his parents, Mr. Harris was preceded in death by three sisters, Aldean Craig, Arlie Conner and Odgen Pickerel; and one brother, Murken Harris. He retired from United Elastic Corporation as a machinist. Mr. Harris is survived by his wife, Hope Hubbard Harris, of the home; one son, Ernest Dean Harris, of Greensboro; one granddaughter, Melissa Dawn Harris, of Floyd; one greatgranddaughter, Isobel Harris; and one sister, Sybil H. Mize, of Bassett. A memorial service for Mr. Harris will be held 3 p.m. on Friday, August 14, 2009, at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with Elder Edward Bowman officiating. Military Rites will be conducted by the Patrick County Veterans Memorial Honor Guard. Burial will be private. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service at the funeral home.
