Ida Bowyer Flowers Elliott

Ida Bowyer Flowers (Nana) Elliott, 80, of Roanoke, Va., has gone to join her husband, James L. "Rope" Elliott, on Wednesday, August 19, 2009. She was the third child born to the late Smead Davis Bowyer and Nora Gray Bowyer Gill. She is survived by her daughter, Phyllis Gail Flowers Wirt, of Roanoke; two sisters, Annie Welch and Betty Campbell; three grandchildren, Bobby Lee Wirt, James Howard "Jamie" Wirt and wife, Kym, and Tammy Wirt Phillips and husband, Rodney; two greatgrandchildren, Ashley and Anthony; and three great-greatgrandchildren; one special niece, Myrtle Marie Welch Tate; very special neighbors, Buddy and Gypsy Dix, thanks for all their help; and special friends, Bobby E. Wirt, John Lamond Jr. and Harry Guilliams. Ida was a life member of the D.A.V.A. she was so proud of the Certificate of Appreciation from the Roanoke Valley Veterans Council in Recognition of outstanding services as an member of the Veterans Honor Guard in June of 1989. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the charity of your choice in Ida's name. Friends may visit with the family on Friday, August 21, 2009, from 5 to 9 p.m. at Simpson Funeral Home. A service celebrating Ida's life will be held 3 p.m. on Saturday, August 22, 2009, in Simpson Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Carter Sloan officiating. Interment will follow in Sherwood Memorial Park.
