Ernest Woods Obituary

Ernest J. (E.J.) Woods, 80, of Christiansburg, Va., began a new journey with our Lord on Friday, August 21, 2009 at his home. He was a Korean War Veteran, serving in the US Army, a life member of VFW Post # 5311, and was a well known local contractor all his life, he was always ready to help family and friends. Born on March 14, 1929 in Montgomery County, Va. to the late Ernest George and Prentie Dulaney Woods, he was also preceded in death by a sister, Evelyn Woods, brother, William McKinley Woods and infant son. A loving husband, father and grandfather, he leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Margie Harris Woods; daughter and son-in-law, Diana and Delvis Davis; son and daughter-in-law, Donald and Carma Woods; grandchildren, Krissy and husband, Michael Janney, Hunter Woods, and Dylan Woods; great-grandchildren, Hannah and Tara Janney; sister-in-law, Dorothy Harris; many nieces, nephews, and close friends. The family will receive friends on Sunday, August 23, 2009 from 6 until 8 p.m. at Horne Funeral Home. A funeral service will be conducted on Monday, August 24, 2009 at 2 p.m. from the chapel of Horne Funeral Home with the Rev. Steve Akers officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Cemetery. Flowers will be accepted, however those wishing to make memorial contributions are asked to consider Ellett Valley Pentecostal Holiness Church, c/o Steve Akers, 395 Pine Hollow Road, Christiansburg, VA 24073. The Woods family is being served by Horne Funeral Service, Christiansburg, Va. Online condolences may be sent by visiting www.hornefuneralservice.com.
