Wilbur Hodges Obituary

Wilbur Robert Hodges, 96, of Callaway, Va., went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, August 25, 2009. He was born on January 8, 1913, a twin son of the late Fred and Ella G. Hodges. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Gracie Wray Hodges; brothers, Herbert, Earnest, and Luther Hodges; sister, Ada Holt; and sister and brother-in-law, Mildred and John Slocum. Mr. Hodges lived and worked as a fruit grower in the Monte Vista community all his life. He was a lifelong member of Monte Vista Church of the Brethren and also drove the school bus. Mr. Hodges was a kind and loving man who never met a stranger. He had a special affection for everyone, especially his twin brother, Wilford. Surviving are his sons, Marshall and Carol Hodges, Earl and Jean Hodges, Wayne and Agnes Hodges, and Carlton and Joyce Hodges; daughter, Eleanor and Ronnie St.Pierre; 15 grandchildren; 17 greatgrandchildren; four great-greatgrandchildren; two step grandchildren; two stepgreatgrandchildren; twin brother, Wilford and Blanche Hodges; brother, Henry and Laura Hodges; sisters, Martha Stilwell, and Sarah and Lenford Nichols; sister-in-law, Margaret Hodges; brother-in-law, Rufus Holt; and numerous nieces and nephews. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to the Monte Vista Church of the Brethren Building Fund. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. on Friday, August 28, 2009, from Monte Vista Church of the Brethren with Pastor Jimmy Robinson and the Rev. Gene Craighead officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
