Carole, Sharon and Flea,
I was very sorry to hear about Joy and wished I could have paid my respects at the funeral home. When I think of Joy I picture her sitting out in the front yard on Edinburgh Drive where many a neighbor would come by and visit. I am sure this is a difficult time for you but I know it brings you comfort to know her and Clyde are together again. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

Hi Flea,
I was saddened to hear about your mom. I can still see our parents cheering us on at football and basketball games. (I know Daddy was proud of me, but I know he lived through you boys) We are lucky to have such wonderful memories of our parents. You and your family are in my prayers.

Sharon, I remember my Mom & sister telling about growing up on Melrose Ave and being friends with your Mom & Helene. I also remember going to visit Lula Belle on Melrose with my Mom. They were neighbors for many years before our family moved to Cedarhurst Ave soon after I was born. You & I went to school together from 1st grade through H.S. I remember that we were often in the same class together and that your Mom was the class mother. I also remember once that the whole class walked to your house from Huff Lane for a picnic. I know that you will miss your mother as I do mine.

Kim (Flea), I am saddened by this news. Your mother was always so sweet, and my mother (who died Dec. 05) thought so much of her as well. You and your family will be in my thoughts and prayers. Love, Laurie Myers Russell

I am so sorry to hear about the loss of your mother. I have been where you are my friend. I know from my own experience consolation is hard to come by, no matter how many people try to give comfort and kind words. I will be thinking of you in the weeks and months ahead as you mourn. Please know that the hearts and minds of your friend's are with you.

Memories of Alice Joy go far back when my Aunt, Ruth Weaver, Helene, Joy and I played together in the McCray backyard on Melrose Avenue. Joy (we seldom called her Alice Joy) was always quiet and reserved and would much rather be helping her dad at the store. She always had a smile and friendly word when we met during the years as we raised our families in Dorchester Court. Our sincere sympathy to her family...we know you will miss her greatly.

Flea, I am so sorry about your loss. You and your family will be in our prayers. It is hard to believe my mom has been gone 20 years this week. I am so glad you had your mom so long. What a blessing.

I remember so much about Joy and how she touched my life when I was a child. She was like my second Mom and I loved spending the night with Carole. I will miss her greatly. Whenever I am in Roanoke I drive up Edinburgh Dr knowing that Joy was there. She was a wonderful friend to my parents and to everyone she met. My heart goes out to Carole, Sharon and Kim. Just know that she is now with your Father and is at peace.
