Bernice Collins Cox

Bernice Collins Cox, of Rocky Mount, Va., was born on April 16, 1934, and passed quietly at home with family on Tuesday, September 8, 2009. She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Lottie Collins; stepmother, Martha Collins; children, Betty Phillips and Roy Eugene Ramey; brothers and sisters, Melvin Collins, Arlin (Buddy Boy) Collins, Earl Collins (Big Bud), Beulah Williams, and Terry Sexton; grandchild, Tara Lee Hobbs; and greatgrandchild, Raven Cheyenne Hicks. She is survived by her fiance, Johnny Sluss; siblings, Nelson and Patricia Collins, Kermit and Lois Collins, Herman and Mary Collins, Patsy and Junior Branam, Maxie Ramey, Margie Ward, Betty Ann and Danny Sluss, Brenda Kay and Cleophas Mullins; children, Luther and Gail Ramey, Oria Jane and Jackie Hubbard, Allen and Anetta Ramey, Billie and Ala Sue Ramey, James Ramey and Lisa Dunn, and Linda and David Hobbs; grandchildren, Angela and Bobby Phillips, Renee and Joey Hicks, Debra and Ricky France, Jessica and Bo Heckman, Kayla Hobbs and Sean Singleton, Anthony and Crystal Ramey, Luke Ramey and Ronnie Taylor, Bobby and Ashley Ramey, Jason and Heather Ramey, Chris Ramey, Tara Ramey, and Alyssa Ramey, Hannah and Thomas Gardner, Travis Ramey, Jamie Phillips, Mary Phillips Brubaker, Kimberly Phillips; greatgrandchildren, Bubba Phillips, Alex Phillips, Jayden Hicks, Jax Hicks, Kaleb Hicks, Zeth Hicks, Ben Hicks, Dylan Hicks, Payton France, Kaitlyn Heckman and Brennan Heckman, Elizabeth Singleton, Nicholas Clark, Nathaniel Clark, Xavier Ramey, Calvin Phillips, Brandon Brubaker, Brittany Brubaker, Ethan Tinsley, and Charity Ramey; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. on Friday, September 11, 2009, from Lynch Conner-Bowman Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Kermit Collins and Dr. Jackie Spence officiating. Interment will follow in Franklin Clearview Cemetery.
