Marie Wade Obituary

Marie Atkins Wade, 74, of Salem, Va., went to be with the Lord on Thursday, September 10, 2009. She was born on August 8, 1935, in Catawba, Va., daughter of the late Ralph and Annie Rhodes Brizendine. She was also preceded in death by her first husband, Herbert Atkins; brothers, Alvin and Edward Brizendine; and a sister, Ruth Looney. Mrs. Wade retired from Kroger and was a member of Bonsack Baptist Church. She is survived by her loving husband, Norben Wade; sons, Scott Atkins and wife, Kathy, and Sheriff Eric Atkins and wife, Teri; stepson, Glenn Wade; brothers, Carlyle Brizendine and wife, Mildred, and Stuart Brizendine; sister, Joyce Headford; five grandchildren, Kendall Atkins, Kelsey Atkins, Kallie Atkins, Cameron Atkins and Tyler Atkins; and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. on Monday, September 14, 2009, at the chapel of John M. Oakey and Son, Salem with Dr. Bob Moore and J. David Rorer officiating. Interment will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Sunday, September 13, 2009, from 4 to 6 p.m. at John M. Oakey and Son, Salem. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mrs. Wade's name to the Alzheimer's Association, Blue Ridge of Virginia Chapter, 2278 Colonial Ave., Suite 2, Roanoke, Va. 24015. Rick and Terri, Sorry to read about your mom, I know this will be hard on all your family but just know she is in a better place and she is not ill anymore. its been a year since mom passed away and I still think of her each day as I know you will. May God give you peace at this time in your life.
