Dorothy Barr Obituary

Dorothy Ann (Dot) Barr, 76, of Roanoke, Va., passed away on Wednesday, September 9, 2009. She was born on December 26, 1932, in Damascus, Va. Dorothy was a member of Melrose Baptist Church and was a member of the Eastern Star. She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Hattie Smith; husband, Richard B. Barr; daughter, Lisa Jayne; and brother, F. Howell (Hal) Smith. She is survived by a daughter, Sharon L. Barr, of Roanoke; sons, Alan E. Barr, of Vinton, and Donald B. Barr and his wife, Carolyn, of Roanoke; grandchildren, Derik Barr and wife, Melissa, Courtney Barr, Jason Barr, Morgan Barr, Justin English and wife, Tammy, Leslie Gordon and husband, Adam; great-grandchildren, Joshua Barr, Sage, Shaelynn and Connor English, Evie Gordon, Olivia and Pearl Gordon; brothers, Glenn Smith, of South Carolina, Paul Smith and his wife, Donna, of Pennsylvania, Larry Smith and his wife, Retha, of Glade Springs, Va.; numerous nieces and nephews; and a special pet, P Bird, the Peacock. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, September 12, 2009, at Melrose Baptist Church with the Rev. Larry Sprouse and the Rev. Brenda Rowe officiating. The interment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. Donations may be made to the Melrose Baptist Church Building Fund. The family will be receiving friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Oakey's North Chapel, 540-362-1237.

I think this was a most special women who is gone now and I am sad about it She had no reason to be nice to me yet she was!! There are not many people like her left and you would have to know her to know what I mean.. I am very sorry Sharon. You know what I mean! R. Lovell

Dorothy was so kind and helpful to our family when Greg's mother broke her leg last year. She was a wonderful neighbor and will be missed. We are very sorry for your lose and will hold your family in our prayers.
