Mildred Genadopoulos Obituary

Mildred Cantley Genadopoulos, 88, of Pearisburg, Va., passed away on Thursday, September 10, 2009 at Carilion Giles Memorial Hospital in Pearisburg. Mrs. Genadopoulos was born on August 4, 1921, in Winifrede, W.Va., and was a daughter of the late Clarence W. Cantley and Bessie Combs Cantley Daniel. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George J. Genadopoulos; two sisters, Uledene C. Bean and Jessie C. Dolan; and one brother, Clarence V. Cantley. Mildred was a Marine Veteran of World War II. She went through basic training at Camp Lejeune, N.C., before being transferred to Cherry Point, N.C., where she was assigned to Navy Supply. Mildred and George owned and operated the Virginian Restaurant for over 30 years along with her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Mike and Eula. She was also an original member of the Pearisburg Church of Christ. She is survived by her son, John G. Genadopoulos, of Pearisburg; one brother, Panco Cantley and his wife, Jackie, of New Castle; two sisters, Mary C. Brammer, of Charleston, W.Va., and Connie C. Viars, of Oveida, Fla.; and several nieces, nephews and special friends. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. on Sunday, September 13, 2009, at the Givens Funeral Chapel in Pearisburg with entombment following in the Birchlawn Abbey in Pearisburg. The family will receive friends at the Givens Funeral Home on Saturday evening, September 12, 2009, from 6 to 8 p.m. Online condolences can be sent to the family at givensfuneralhome.com.
