William Howell Obituary

William Lawrence Howell, 77, of Christiansburg, Va., passed away on Wednesday, September 9, 2009. He was preceded in death by his father, William Jackson Howell; mother, Rhetta Aquilla Akers Howell; sister, Iva Carroll; daughter-in-law, Linda G. Howell; and his first wife and mother of his children, Janet S. Howell.
He was a veteran, who served during the Korean Conflict, and was wounded during combat.
He was the founder and owner of Howell's Auto Sales for over 50 years where he repaired and sold countless vehicles for numerous people. He was always willing to help anyone at anytime or just sit and enjoy a lengthy conversation. Not much could rival his passion for his antique cars and trucks and his love of visiting car shows and cruise-ins. He was also a racing fan and competitor in his early years. He shared his knowledge and supported his sons, "Bo" and Tony, in their racing achievements. He enjoyed going to the Floyd Country Store every Friday night where he would listen and flatfoot to the music. He was very well known and respected by everyone in the community. He will forever be missed, especially by his family and friends.
He is survived by his children, Deborah Weeks, Timothy "Bo" Howell, Tony and wife, Linda Howell, Amy Howell, and Christopher Howell; eight grandchildren; two greatgrandchildren; sisters and brother-in-law, Edith Hennrich, and Jean Mosley and husband, Steve; nine nephews; four nieces; and numerous friends.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. on Saturday, September 12, 2009, at the Maberry Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Roy Turpin officiating. Interment to follow in the Duncan Chapel Cemetery. Visitations will be held on Friday, September 11, 2009, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Maberry Funeral Home, as well as on Saturday from 11 a.m. until the service time at 1 p.m. Online condolences may be left at www.maberryfuneralhome.com

To the Howell Family:
I am so sorry for your loss.
I have not seen Mr Howell for so many years that I cannot really remember him and feel very bad that I did not get to see him before he passed away.
I owe him my life---he saved me from drowning over 40 years ago!! My family was at Smith Mt Lake, I fell in and under a boat, was under quite a while before anyone realized, then Mr Howell ran and grabbed me out. I know now God had a purpose for my life and it was not my time to go. I will always be grateful that he was there that day!
May God Bless you all, with all my thoughts and prayers.
