There are those that no matter the brevity of their touch; the magic of it lingers long after, oftentimes till the end of our days. Such was that of Bob Cantrell, my cousin and a companion of my youth. I grieve with the loss of his passing not to mourn forlorn as one that I’ll see no more; for I will see him when I too, make that final crossing into the glory of my Lord. Nay… the mourning I speak of is for that ever present smile and uplifting spirit of a man at peace with his Lord and King. To know Bob from his youth till his latter days was to know a tranquil spirit of solemn resolve; a man driven by a peaceful persistence of his faith.
I am glad to have known him and to be counted among his kin; one whose lasting impression was always that of compassion; and yet, lived for the joy as to not waste nor forsake it; especially, his joy in the Lord. Bob was one that had a command of presences; and yet, was found to be meek and humble of spirit. With his presences one felt drawn and with his kindly and genteel spirit would come a sigh from within; the moment forever sealed in such fashion; as his words would add comfort or inspire laughter to embrace the soul. I only know of one way such seemingly effortless communion from another is so forthcoming, and that, is by one touched by Gods love and grace; as to impart the same to all around them. We talked of this numerous times, and each time I witnessed the change in oratory pitch as his testimony of love for the Lord came forth; seemingly, as a spring of living water from which he had just drank. Indeed, I could feel the excitement and fervor of jubilation in his tempo and tone; and thus, was marked the assurance of his faith.
We had lost touch over the years; yet, in the early days and again at the end of days the relationship was picked up where once left off and nary was there descent in his gentle graciousness of one so blessed to that of another. Indeed, I am reminded of Joseph with his coat of many colors; such imagery foreshadows this gentle spirit that loved color, and was so colorful, remaining true to his nature in caring for those around and about him. He was a favored son and as well a favored father; notwithstanding, a favored friend. Bobs smile was that of the morning flower that lingers all the day. I will sore miss him and his winning ways. I will never look at the color orange again without thinking of this gentle giant; as my memory of him will live on till that time when we meet again in the sweet by and by. My hope is that this will in some way provide comfort to his beloved family as it gives me pause to relish those former and latter encounters with one of such special report.

Daddy taking care of you for these last 8 months was a BLESSING !!!! I'm just so happy that you are now singing God's praises with Mom and Grandma and the Daddy that you never got to grow up with, I'm sure the conversations have not stopped since you arrived. I miss you so much, but would rather have you healed in Heaven than here on this earth to suffer another day.
