Danny Thompson Obituary

Danny Joe Thompson, 65, formerly of Roanoke, Va., died on Sunday, September 6, 2009, while passing through Savannah, Ga., with family who wanted to care for him. Dan was born and raised in Laramie, Wyo. He married in Virginia and raised his daughters there. He was a good friend to many in Roanoke where he worked as an educator. After returning to Wyoming for almost a decade, he spent his last years in Edgewater, Fla. Dan is predeceased by his father, Daniel Woodrow Thompson. He is survived by his mother, Connie Thompson (age 92) of Edgewater; by his brother, Gary and sister-in-law, Maggie Thompson, of Salem, Va.; by the mother of his children, Connie DiLauro and her husband, John DiLauro; and by his first-born daughter, Ginny Echo Thompson, of Smith Mountain Lake; by his daughter Misty and his son-in-law, Larry Reynolds Jr.; his three grandchildren, Eleven Becenti, Amulet Atari, and Jupiter Fin of Portland, Ore.; his uncle, Cornett and his aunt, June Rasnake, of Abingdon, Va.; and by cousins and relatives across the country. Dan was deeply loved. He was always willing to help a friend in need. His illnesses have reached their end; his pain is done. We will miss his stories, his jokes, and his refrain for the mirror: "You good lookin' dog, don't you ever die."

Dear Danny, Misty wrote this beautiful tribute to yet another city, as you traveled all over the world (backpacking in Europe, subsisting on cheese, bread and beer). You touched so many peoples lives, from the Rockies Mountain ranges to the Appalachian Mountains, the Pacific Ocean to the Atlantic Ocean. You had a wonderlust, you were highly intelligent, witty, charming, handsome, artistic, and idealistically caring. Your afflictions are all gone now. and I know you did the best you could. I remember a comment you recently said,"Can you believe how beautiful our daughters are!" The "Full Measure" of your loving is yet to be understood. I'll miss you, Love Connie
