Rubye R. Phelps

Rubye R. Phelps, 96, of Roanoke, formerly of Crystal River, Fla. and North Canton, Ohio, passed away on Friday, September 25, 2009. She is the widow of James D.M. Phelps and is also preceded in death by four sisters. Surviving are sons and daughters-in-law, David R. and Judith H. Phelps, of Moneta, Va., Thomas M. and Christina A. Phelps, of Minnetoka, Minn.; grandchildren, Melissa P. Firestone, Steven D. Phelps, James R. Phelps and Michael T. Phelps; sister, Henrietta Long, of Tulsa, Okla.; seven great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews. The family would like to give a special thanks to caregivers, Heather Chewning, Elaine Cooper and Katie Pickeral. The family suggests memorials be sent to the Brandon Oaks Assistance Group, 3804 Brandon Ave. SW, Roanoke, VA 24018. Services will be conducted at the convenience of the family.
