Dorothy Tamraz Obituary

Dorothy A. Havecker Tamraz, 94, of Brandon Oaks, Roanoke, Va., and formerly of New York, died on Tuesday, September 22, 2009. She was preceded in death, by her parents, William Charles and Sophia Krieger Havecker; and by her husband, Clement Alvin Tamraz of Yonkers, N.Y. She was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on March 3, 1915. She graduated from Brooklyn College in 1939 and earned her MA degree in 1941 in personnel administration from New York University. Upon her retirement as Director of Personnel Relations of the New York City Department of Social Services, she lived in California with her husband, a published writer, until her return to Great Neck, N.Y. She later, retired to Brandon Oaks to be near her dear cousin, Sadie M.R. Boyle. She is survived by her stepson and daughter-in-law, Clement P. (Bo) and Hope Tamraz, of Carmichael, Calif.; step granddaughters, Victoria and Vanessa Tamraz, of Sacramento, Calif.; sister-inlaw, Anne Tamraz Fredericks, of Yonkers, N.Y.; stepnephew and niece-in-law, Jonathan and Sonja Tamraz, of Roanoke, Va.; and cousins, Barbara B. Lemon and her family and John W. Boyle and family. Dorothy was a member of Second Presbyterian Church, and a member of the Bryn Mawr chapter #530 of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was an extremely intelligent and vibrant woman who made great advancements in the professional world in her time. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. on Sunday, September 27, 2009, in the Brandon Oaks auditorium with the Rev. George Anderson officiating. Arrangements by Oakey's Roanoke Chapel, 540-982-2100.

I was a hairstylist at Brandon Oaks a few years ago and remember Mrs. Tamaraz well. She always had a pleasant attitude and was a pleasure to know. I am sorry for your loss.
