Don Fairbanks Obituary

Don Fairbanks, 77, of Oak Hill, Va., died on September 19, 2009, at Cameron Glen Nursing Center. He was born on December 11, 1931, in San Francisco, Calif. to the late Milton and Elizabeth Natusch Fairbanks. Don was one of the very first patients to receive a pioneering surgery for coarctation of the aorta. This operation was performed long before the era of the HeartLung machine. The procedure performed on Don when he was 15 years old extended his life more than 60 years. He retired in 1990 from Mobil Oil Corporation after 32 years of service. Don was the beloved husband of 52 years of Joann Fairbanks; loving and devoted father of Ruann "Annie" Bunker, of Powder Springs, Ga., Jo Marie Roggenkamp, of St. Petersburg, Fla., Michael Don Fairbanks, of Lovettsville, Va., Christopher John Fairbanks, of Front Royal, Va., and Benjamin David Fairbanks, of Herndon, Va.; brother of Robert Fairbanks, of Dana Point, Calif.; proud grandfather of Andrew, Matthew, Alexx, Jeremy, Amy, Jordyn, Kasey, Mikaela, Jessica and Zachary; great-grandfather of Kaisha. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, October 5, 2009, at 11 a.m. at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 11900 Lawyers Road, Reston, Va. Interment will be private. The family suggests that memorial contributions may be made to Capital Hospice, 6565 Arlington Blvd., Suite 501, Falls Church, Va. 22042. Arrangements by Adams-Green Funeral Home, Herndon, Va.
