George Wade Obituary

George Emery Wade, 95, a resident of Brandon Oaks, in Roanoke, Va., died on Wednesday, September 30, 2009. He was the son of the late Clarence George and Ethel Lee Burnette Wade. He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Naomi Brandon Wade; and his brother, Dr. Frank Alton Wade. Mr. Wade was a graduate of Jefferson High School and Roanoke College and received his master's degree from the University of Michigan. During the 1940's he served his country as a cryptanalyst with the Army Security Agency in the War Department. He retired in 1978 from Peat, Marwick, Mitchell, where he worked as a Pension Consultant and Administrator.
An avid historian and genealogist, Mr. Wade generously shared his collections of books, postcards, and historical items with several libraries and historical societies. He was a recipient of the Roanoke College Medal and a member of the Society of 1842. Surviving are his sisters-in-law, Dr. Evelyn Clark Wade, of Roanoke, and Alline Brandon Martin, of WinstonSalem, N.C.; one nephew; and three nieces. A memorial service will he held 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 3, 2009, at Raleigh Court Presbyterian Church following his interment in Fair View Cemetery. Minister Tupper Garden will officiate. Arrangements by Oakey's North Chapel, 540-362-1237.

To The Wade Family,
I had the priviledge of meeting Mr. Wade when my mother, Ruth Nicely was a resident of Friendship Manor. I lived in the Brookside North area, so he and I always crossed paths each day when he was checking in on his wife. I enjoyed our talks, I know you will miss him. However, we know that they both are together now. God be with each of you during this difficult time.
