Terry Patterson Obituary

Terry Lee Patterson, 60, of Roanoke, Va., passed away on Wednesday, September 30, 2009, after a long courageous battle with cancer. Terry proudly served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War era on the U.S.S. Franklin D. Roosevelt Aircraft Carrier. He was the desalination expert and boiler operator. Terry was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend who enjoyed hunting, fishing, CB and ham radio, the flea market, yard sales, and the Blue Ridge Parkway. He is survived by his childhood sweetheart and wife of 39 years, Margaret Quarles Patterson; daughters, Sharon P. Bandy (Richard Wayne), and Laura P. Lazenby (Jason); grandson, Griffin Lee Bandy; brothers, Aubrey Lawhorn, Byrd Patterson Jr., Roger Linkenhoker, and Victor Bradshaw; sisters, Vivian Guthrie and Shirley Hunter; aunts, Eunice Linkenhoker and Ruth Crouch; uncles, Frank and Ed Crouch; special nephew, Sam Quarles Jr.; and many nieces and nephews. He was very close to the Quarles and Bradley families as they treated him as their own. Memorial Service to celebrate his life will be held 6 p.m. on Monday, October 5, 2009, in the Valley Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service. Inurnment will be held at a later date at the Virginia Veterans Cemetery, Dublin, Va. Magraret, Sharon and Laura,
i want you to know you all are in my thoughts and prayers. I know Terry is in a better place now, no more suffering but I know that doesn't make it any easier. I know he and Deb are looking down an all of you and keeping you safe.
