Wilbur Wright Obituary

Wilbur (Bud) Wright, 85, of Roanoke, Va., died peacefully on Sunday, October 4, 2009. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Vergie; his son, Warren Douglas Wright, of Roanoke, Va., and his wife Maura; and his daughter, Karen Lee Humphlett and her husband, Charles, of Las Vegas, Nev. He is also survived by grandchildren, Samuel and Tina Wright, of Holbrook, N.Y., and their daughters, Lauren and Melanie; Donna and Peter Mortensen, of Lake Ronkonkoma, N.Y., and their daughters, Amanda, Nicole and Shannon; Matthew Wright of Yakima, Wash., and Kimberly Freeman, of Fairfax, Va. He was a noble and humble man who loved his wife, his family and his country. He was stationed on the USS Pennsylvania during the Pearl Harbor invasion and went on to serve with honor for the rest of World War II. He spent his life outdoors and the splendor of nature's bounty was the source of his spirituality. In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer donations be made to Carilion Clinic Hospice, 1615 Franklin Road, Roanoke, Va. 24016. Arrangements by Oakey's South Chapel, 540-989-3131.
