James Porter Obituary

The Reverend James William Porter, 62, of Ivanhoe, Va., went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, October 7, 2009. He was born in Grayson County on November 6, 1946. He was preceded in death by his father, James Edgar 'Edd" Porter; and a brother, Harold Douglas Porter. He was pastor of Siloam Gospel Tabernacle for more than 25 years, a United States Army veteran and an employee of Alliant Tech. He is survived by his wife, Priscilla Christine Porter; one son and daughter-in-law, Maurice and Cindy Porter; two grandchildren, Bethany and Rachel Porter all of Ivanhoe, Va.; his mother, Irene Porter, of Max Meadows, Va.; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Louise Dunford, of Max Meadows, Va., Kathy and Junior Mabry, of Foster Falls, Va., and Carol and J.D. Webb, of Mulehell, Va.; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Virgil and Teresa Porter, Robert "Jack" and Margaret Porter, Ricky and Rebecca Porter, all of Max Meadows, Va.; special friends, Charlie Cox, of Elkhorn, Ky., and Duane Wall, of Max Meadows, Va. Several nieces, nephews and many brothers and sisters in the Lord also survive. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. on Saturday, October 10, 2009, at the Reese Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Charlie Cox, the Rev. Duane Wall and the Rev. Virgil Porter officiating. Interment will follow in St. Peter's Cemetery. American Legion Post #9 will conduct Graveside Military Rites. The family will receive friends on Friday evening, October 9, 2009, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Reese Funeral Home, Austinville, Va., is in charge of arrangements.
