Joel Rutrough Obituary

Joel Taswell Rutrough, 92, of Boones Mill, went to be with the Lord on October 10, 2009 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was the son of the late John and Lura Rutrough and was a member of Mountain View Old German Baptist Brethren Church. He had been employed in several occupations, including farming, carpentry, block laying, state highway dept., school bus driver for 38 years with the Franklin County school system and a plumber and electrician until retiring in November, 1978. He is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Clara Mae and Gerald Pasley, of Wirtz, and Janet and Arnold Wright, of Raleigh, N.C.; one son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Helen Rutrough, of Boones Mill. Also surviving are six grandchildren and spouses, Cathy and Larry Williams and Anthony and Lindsey Rutrough, of Boones Mill, Donna and David Prucnal, of Baltimore, Md., Sandy Palmieri, of Roanoke, Julie and Daniel Streit, of Raleigh, N.C., and Leigh Ann and Tony Quist, of Ferrum. Also surviving are nine great-grandchildren and his sister, Frances Kimmel, of Dayton, Ohio. Surviving sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Frances Rutrough, of Boones Mill and William Garber, of Arcanum, Ohio. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, wife, Bessie, brothers, Charlie, James and David and sister, Nannie Garber. Funeral services will be conducted from Mountain View Old German Baptist Brethren Church, Dugwell Road, Boones Mill on Tuesday, October 13, 2009 at 11 a.m. The family will receive friends at Mountain View Church on Sunday and Monday evenings, October 11 and 12 between 5 and 9 p.m. There also will be a viewing at the church one hour before services on Tuesday. Interment will follow in Mountain View Memorial Park, Boones Mill. In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be made to Good Samaritan Hospice 2408 Electric Road, SW Roanoke, VA 24018. The family expresses heartfelt thanks to Good Samaritan for their support and care during the last couple weeks. Arrangements by Flora Funeral Service, Rocky Mount.
