Ruth McKinney Obituary

Ruth Finir Perkins McKinney, of Roanoke, Va., entered Heaven on Friday, October 16, 2009. She was born September 29, 1922, in Ruffin, N.C., daughter of John Wyatt and Mytle Evans Perkins. She is survived by two sons, Raeford Edgar McKinney, Charles Preston McKinney; one daughter, Deloris Carolyn McKinney; and one sister, Inez Phillips. Survivors also include her grandchildren, Khrista Rae McKinney, Amanda Lynn McKinney and Tyler Preston McKinney; and several greatgrandchildren. She leaves behind longtime dear friends, Euna and J.L. Cassell. Ruth was an avid gardener and had an extraordinary talent propagating rose bushes. She was a tender hearted and hard working woman. Ruth handled her last few weeks of her life with a great deal of courage and grace. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her. The family will receive friends on Sunday, October 18, 2009, from 3 to 6 p.m. at Lotz Funeral Home in Salem. Funeral services will be conducted at Lotz Salem Chapel on Monday, October 19, 2009, at noon with interment to follow in Sherwood Memorial Park. Memorials may be made in the form of flowers or donations may be sent to heart and cancer organizations.

Raeford, Deloris, Chuck and families,
I will always be grateful to have known your mom. I never knew my dad, but I somehow felt close to him when I was around her. She was truely a beautiful lady. I will miss her also. I am so very proud that she was my Aunt Ruth.
