Helen Elizabeth McDonald Spradlin Reynolds

McDonald Spradlin Helen Elizabeth McDonald Spradlin Reynolds, 83, of Harrisonburg, Va., formerly of Roanoke, passed away peacefully surrounded by her daughter and son-in-law on Thursday, October 15, 2009, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital, in Harrisonburg. She was born on September 13, 1926, in Ashland, W.Va. to Olin Joseph and Ida Roxie McDonald. Helen attended Jefferson High School in Roanoke, Va. and worked for Double Envelope Corp. for 38 years as a machine operator. Helen was a member of the Patterson Memorial Grace Brethren Church in Roanoke. She was preceded in death by her parents, Olin Joseph and Ida Roxie McDonald; her husbands, Harold Meador Spradlin, whom she married on August 9, 1945, and John Aubry Reynolds, whom she married on August 23, 1978. Helen is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Evelyn and H. Richard "Dick" Travis, of Harrisonburg, Va., with whom she lived for the past eight years; her grandchildren, Eric Richard Travis and his wife, Rebecca, of Apex, N.C., and Erin Elizabeth Swartley and her husband, Eric, of Harrisonburg, Va.; her greatgrandchildren, Christopher, Benjamin, Claire and Andrew Travis, of Apex, N.C., and Alyssa and Caden Swartley, of Harrisonburg, Va.; her five stepchildren, Vickie Tackett and her husband, Don, of Greenbrier, Tenn., Donna Kazorck and her husband, Ron, of Gretna, Va., the Rev. John W. Reynolds and his wife, Vicky, of Fincastle, Va., Kevin Reynolds and his wife, Sallie, of Concord, N.C., and Deborah Jacobs, of Gretna, Va.; as well as numerous stepgrandchildren; greatgrandchildren; nieces, nephews and close friends. Friends are welcome to call Saturday, October 17, 2009, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Rader Funeral Home, 630 Roanoke Road, Daleville. A funeral service celebrating Helen's life will be held on Sunday, October 18, 2009, 2:30 p.m. at Rader Funeral Home Chapel. Officiating will be the Rev. George W. Evans and H. Richard "Dick" Travis CLP. Interment will be held on Monday, October 19, 2009, 11 a.m. at Cedar Lawn Memorial Park, in Roanoke, Va.
