May E. Shires

May E. Shires, 74, of Maiden, N.C., and formerly of Waiteville, W.Va., passed away on Sunday, October 18, 2009, following a short illness. She was born at Waiteville, W.Va., on July 10, 1935, a daughter of the late Roy and Nellie Williams Harless. Mrs. Shires was a homemaker, a member of the Waiteville Home Demonstration Club and the New Zion Union Church at Waiteville. Surviving are her husband, Donald C. Shires, of Maiden, N.C.; two sons, William M. "Billy" Shires, of Charlotte, N.C., and Jerold D. Shires, of Denver, N.C.; and three grandchildren. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. on Wednesday, October 21, 2009, at the New Zion Union Church in Waiteville with the Rev. Bob Ratliff officiating. Burial will follow in the New Zion Union Church Cemetery at Waiteville. Friends may call at the Groves Funeral Home in Union, W.Va., from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, October 20, 2009, and at the church one hour prior to the services.
