Donald Alls Obituary

Donald Eugene Alls Sr., 77, of Roanoke, Va., passed away on Wednesday afternoon, October 21, 2009, at the Virginia Veterans Care Center. Don was a 1950 graduate of William Fleming High School and served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was a former employee of Blue Ridge Beverage, and Christian Food Brokers, and served in management positions with the Kroger Food Company and Kings Supermarket. Don was a longtime active member of Trinity Lutheran Church where he served on many Church committees. He was an avid NASCAR fan of #3, Dale Earnhardt Sr. He enjoyed traveling, working around his home and especially doing yard work at his home and church. He was preceded in death by his father, Elmer Wesley Alls Sr.; and mother, Irene Mae Lugar Alls. He is survived by his loving wife, Elizabeth Short Alls; brother and wife, Elmer Wesley Alls Sr. and wife, Margaret; daughter and son-in-law, Donna Kay Alls and husband, Ricky; sons, Donald Eugene Alls Jr., and William "Andy" Alls; granddaughter, Jessica Rae and husband, Joseph; grandson, Justin Alexander Alls; great-grandchildren, Autumn and Jessee Rae; nieces, nephews, many other family members, and his Church family and many friends. He is also survived by 12 brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law from the Short and Hansbrough families and their extended families. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Trinity Lutheran Church "Building Fund," 4040 Williamson Road, Roanoke, Va. 24012 or to a charity of your choice. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 24, 2009, at Trinity Lutheran Church by the Rev. Kenneth P. Lane. Interment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 1 to 3 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, October 23, 2009, at Simpson Funeral Home, 5160 Peters Creek Road, 540-366-0707.
