Charlie was one of those rare people in the world who are impossible to fit in any pigeon hole. A giant of a man with a giant of a heart. I didn't see him often enough but whenever we were together we picked up right where we left off. He had my back more than a few times and I will never forget him for that. When he was hurting and broken I had the chance to pay him back a little and I am grateful for having had the opportunity. Danny Counts said for some reason he hugged him but couldn't figure out why. How could you not hug this guy who was nothing but real and true to those who accepted him for who he was. To all in his family and to all who loved him, I hope you all find peace in knowing that he lived the life he wanted and wanted the life he lived.

I was shocked to hear about "tombstone" yesterday. I had opportunity to talk to gilbert from Adams about a permit for a conveyor & he asked me if I remembered 'big charlie. What was odd, i had just been thinking about him when all that stuff went down with the Pagans the other week. I worked with charlie @ Adams back in the 90's...I miss ALL my buds there...wizard, panhead, melanie, joe, they were all such great people & we all worked together. My thoughts & prayers go out to the family.

Ride Free now brother!

I worked with Charlie at the Coffee Pot in the mid 80's. Great guy. I saw him this past spring at Kelley's, and for some reason I hugged him. My most sincere condolences to his family and all his other loved ones, which are many.

I knew Charley for 30+ years and even though he had been down a rough road at times he actually taught me a life lesson once, While together with him at a party at Melvin and Linda's I made a negative comment about someone's appearance and he said " you know, I like to meet a person and talk to them before I decide whether I like them or not" and I have lived and preached that from that day on. I visited him in the hospital after his motorcycle wreck and he told me how proud he was of his kids and how much he loved them. I considered him my friend.

Hi Bobby, I was so sorry to hear of your Brother's passing. Your family has been so much a part of our family for so many years, it's hard for me to believe what has happened. Your Dad, especially, was such a good friend to us and I can picture him singing in the Choir with my Dad. I'm thinking of you. Sincerely, Nancy Srb Lowry

My family and the Nichols family were very close in early years attending First Baptist Church. I have fond memories of Nickie's parents as well as both he and Bobby. Ode to Nicki

Is it just me or is the world a little darker today? Is it just me or has a bit of color left my face? Is it just me or are you really gone? Gentle giant with a sweet smile and heavy stride. A man that remembers the old days but was anxious for the new days to come. Sweetness came from an unlikely source to have you in our life was a blessing disguised in black with long hair and a big beard. You touched alot of lives with your years of friendship and loyalty. The flowers won't bloom the same even though the tears will fade. The sun will rise and set even though you are gone but life has changed for all of us cause you left your mark on all of our hearts. So ride on streets of gold and visit with friends and brothers who have passed because your pain is gone now and you are free.

Nicki..that's what I always called you. When I was a kid I used to be real nervous around you, did you know that? I thought you were Randy Owens from the band Alabama. You pretty much knew me from birth and you are a big teddy bear of a man. You looked quite intimidating to the unknowing eye but all it took was to sit down and talk to you to have all that melt away because you are the sweetest man I know. Do you remember taking me to the mall when you were in town? I was too young to drive. You gave me a little bit of money and walked around the mall with me it was so funny seeing this little curly haired tomboy walking around with the gentle giant. It was so hard to see you laying there in that coffin last night..you looked nice in your brown plaid shirt. Kinda thought you would wear black for the occasion but the brown looked very good on you. Nicki you are missed and I won't go a day without thinking of you.

What a loss. I am going to miss those funny phone messages From Charlie.
No one could leave a message like he could.
He became a fixture at Kelleys music where he shopped for 28 years.
He was the only person that got stuck in my corvette & I teased him about that for 25 years.
Luke, Drew, Carrington & bobby, I am so sorry for your loss.
I am glad to have known him.
He cheered me up more times than I can count.

Charlie was such a great person that I feel like everyone knew him, and the ones who didn't should have because he could make you smile on your worst days, He was one of a kind and I wish we could have seen him again.

I too only knew Big Charlie for a short time while working at Adams with him, but He and I crammed alot of good times in while working together. Boy we had alot of laughs! Charlie was a big guy, but I think 90% of him was all heart!
My last day with Charlie (3 weeks ago) was spent fishing together. My son Justin, myself, Charlie and the friends that came with Charlie, all had a great day. I think that was mostly because Charlie was a part of it!
Charlie, you are missed everyday that I no longer see you at work. I know we would have had a lasting friendship...I only wish that the time we knew each other was longer!

My thoughts and prayers are with his family. He spoke of you all with such love and pride! He will be missed.

I'm heartbroken to hear that Charlie is gone. Although I have not seen him for several years, he was dear to my heart, always kind, funny, supportive, and full of love. He was my VMI cadet and I was his Hollins girl. I adored him.

Luke and Family,
I am so sorry to learn of your father's passing. Although I had only met your father once when I lived upstairs from you, he seemed like a wonderful man. I think of you all often. Please know that you all are in my thoughts and prayers.

Sam "useless" worked w/Charlie at Granite Memorials and The Coffee Pot. They knew each other for a long time and were good friends. I also became a friend of Charlies but did not see him very often because of his new lifestyle. We are very sad to hear of his passing and our sympathys go to the family. God Bless.

I am so sorry to her about Charley's passing, I worked with him at Adams Construction. I only knew him for a few months, but in those few months that I did know him, he had become like a DAD to me, I helped Charley take care of his truck while we were working, and its like he took me under his wing and watched out for me. This really hurts me that this could happen to him. If there is anything that I can do for any of you, Please let me know. Sincerley,.... Wild Bill
