Eddie Stephens Obituary

Eddie Mose Stephens Sr., 93, of Roanoke, Va., passed away on Sunday, October 18, 2009. Mose, as he was affectionately called, was born on August 5, 1916, to the late Jermiah and Saphire Stephens in Ruffin, S.C. He was preceded in death by his daughters, Jean Stephens Beckner and Berkley Ann Stephens Ajibade; his first wife and mother of his children, Elizabeth Walker Stephens; second wife, Elizabeth Early Stephens; 13 brothers; and two sisters. He leaves to cherish his memories, sons, Eddie Jr. of Jersey City, N.J., Wesley of Roanoke, Va., and Warren (Sylvia) of Silver Spring, Md.; daughters, Barbara (Lawrence) of Fredericksburg, Va., Mildred "Milly" of Roanoke, Va., and Margaret (Frank) of Killeen, Texas; 37 grandchildren; 50 greatgrandchildren; 18 great-greatgrandchildren; last surviving sister, Inez Dubois, of Jacksonville, Fla.; sisters-inlaw, Ernestine Stephens, Odessa Walker Stephens and Angie Walker; and many dedicated nephews, nieces, cousins and longtime friends. Services will be held 1 p.m. on Monday, October 26, 2009, at Buckhead United Methodist Church, 346 Smyly Road, Ruffin, S.C. 29475. Condolences may be sent to www.Hamlar-Curtis.com.
