Ann Norris Obituary

Ann and her husband, JW, were original investors of Norris Funeral Services where she additionally served as the organist. She was a member of Fieldale United Methodist Church, served was the assistant organist and was also active in youth activities. In the 1980's she founded the "Wonderful Wednesday" youth program which included 60 members and over 100 volunteers. In addition she served as the chairperson of education for many years and was a member of the church choir for 50 years. Mrs. Norris was instrumental in forming the "Fieldale Strings", a five member music group in 1990.
Surviving are her 5 children, Debra Lynn Norris Farrington, of Martinsville, Kathy Ann Norris Stone, of Wake Forest, N.C., Jesse White "Jay"Norris III, of Axton, David Neff Norris, of Axton, and Kimberly Jane Norris, of Fieldale. Also surviving are 8 grandchildren, Jerry Norris Stone, Holly Springs, N.C., Jamie Lynn Farrington, of Charlotte, N.C., Sara Britte Farrington, of Danville, Lauren Ann Stone, of Raleigh, N.C., Jayson Barrett Norris, of Lynchburg, Brandon Shane Norris, of Lynchburg, Christian David Norris, of Axton, and Harrison Neff Norris, of Axton. She is also survived by a sister, Sara Neff Alligood and her husband, Leon Alligood; as well as a niece, Kristy Alligood Fyfe; and a nephew, Kevin Neff Alligood.
The visitation will be Tuesday, October 27, 2009, from 10 to 11 a.m. at Fieldale United Methodist Church, 36 Patrick Ave., Fieldale, and at other times at the home, 78 Breeze Way Dr., Fieldale. Funeral Services will follow at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church with the Reverend Linda Theis officiating with burial to follow in Mountain View Cemetery in Rural Retreat, Va. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Fieldale United Methodist ChurchChoir Fund. Those wishing to express a memory or sympathy online may do so by visiting www.bassett funeralservice.com. Bassett Funeral Service in Bassett is serving the family of Mrs. Ann Neff Norris.
