Jessyee Ramsey Obituary

Jessyee Walker Ramsey, 95, of Roanoke, Va., died peacefully on Sunday, October 25, 2009, Mrs. Ramsey was a devoted member of Melrose Baptist Church since 1925, where a media center was named in her honor and where she served for over 40 years as church librarian. Mrs. Ramsey was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Gordon H. Ramsey; by her sister, Eliza Caroline Hodges; and by her twin sister, Georgia Walker Adams. "JJ," as she was fondly called by friends and family, is survived by her son, Joe W. Ramsey and her daughter-inlaw, Janet L. Ramsey, both of Roanoke. She has two grandchildren, Jason M. Ramsey, of Richmond, and Leigh Walker Pollard, wife of Jason C. Pollard, of Roanoke; and three stepgrandchildren, Benjamin J. Luedke, of Sammamish, Wash., married to Alyse Luedke, Katherine S. Luci, of Blacksburg, married to Jason Luci, and Brian S. Luedke, of Lynchburg, married to Lorna Nicole Luedke. Jessyee was very fond of her five great-grandchildren, McKinely C. Pollard, Mason D. Luedke, Samuel W. Pollard, Oliver E. Luci, and Erika J. Luedke. She is aunt to numerous nieces and nephews; and sister to Dixie W. Tucker, wife of Hugh Tucker, of Vinton. Mrs. Ramsey especially enjoyed times with her sisters and visiting her West Virginia farm with family and friends. A bread baker and talented seamstress, Mrs. Ramsey was fond of entertaining and, in recent years, continued to love coming to family dinners and social events. The family is appreciative of the wonderful care Mrs. Ramsey received at both Park Oak Grove and at Brandon Oaks Nursing Home, and for the friendship of her special room mate, Burlene Reynolds. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the library fund at Melrose Baptist Church, 3520 Peters Creek Road, Roanoke, Va. 24019. The funeral service will be held 11 a.m. on Wednesday, October 28, 2009, at Melrose Baptist Church with the Rev. Larry Sprouse officiating. Interment will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, evening, October 27, 2009, at Oakey's North Chapel, 540-362-1237.
