Betty,
We are so sorry for your loss. While working with John at the Vet. school for 15 years, I never saw him without that wonderful smile on his face and a kind greeting for everyone. He served in the Navy Reserve with my husband and they became good friends, fellow chiefs. My husband commented that John was the "perfect chief." It was an honor to know him and and he will be missed by many.
Fair winds and following seas, John.

Betty and family:
I had the good fortune to work with John for many years at the veterinary school. John had that rare quality of making those around him better. His high standards, smiling face, and can-do attitude contributed greatly to the education of many, many students. It was indeed an honor to have known him. I am sorry for your loss.

Betty and family,
I was lucky enough to work and play with John for over 20 years while he was at the Vet. School. His positive attitude and "will do" work ethic is something I've admired and tried to emulate over the years. He had an incredibly positive impact on my life which I will never forget. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

So sorry to hear of your loss. Being an Eagle Scout myself, I know he must have been an out standing man. I have also been a volunteer Hunters Ed Instructor for two years now; I know how important he must have been to all who was educated by him. Unfortinately I never got the chance to meet John personally, but am sure it would have been a great honor if I had. God Bless to all he left behind. I'm sure he will be greatly missed.
Sincerly,

I graduated in the first class from the veterinary school in 1984 and I worked at the MDL lab with John during my summer breaks. I'll never forget the kindness he showed me, the knowledge he shared, his never-ending smile, nor his can-do attitude. He will live on in the hearts of all he touched. It was an honor to have known John. I'm very sorry for your loss.

Dear Betty
We are so incredibly sorry, John will be long remembered as just the sweetest and kindest man, our grandsons remarked after spending just a couple of hours with him what a great friend he must be. We told that he was. Our prayers have been constant since we learned that John was ill and will continue. We know that it will be good to meet him again on the other shore.
In sincere sorrow,

The community has lost a trusted friend and servant. I will always remember John for his help when I arrived in Blacksburg 21 years ago. His help with my labs and teaching were very much appreciated. I will miss his smiling face and his eternal optimism. Those of us who have benefited from his shooting training for citizens, the Boy Scouts, and other groups will miss his dedication to the Second Amendment. May God Bless John's family and loved ones.
