Kenneth Farmer Obituary

Kenneth Melvin Farmer, 76, of Roanoke, Va., went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, October 27, 2009. He is preceded in death by his parents, James Kenneth Farmer and Verna Cecil Farmer; brother, Herman Randolph (Jack) Farmer; sister, Sandra Lee Farmer; and very special mother-in-law and father-in-law, Walter and Cassie Buckner. Mr. Farmer was born October 12, 1933, to the late James and Verna Farmer. Mr. Farmer retired from General-Electric Company after 35 years of service. He served his country faithfully in the United States Army for 12 years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and baseball. He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years and eight months, Mary B. Farmer; son, Roger Lee Farmer; daughters, Theresa Ann Farmer and Kathryn Jo Farmer; granddaughter, Tracy Michelle Deel; three great- grandchildren that adored him, Lionel Currie Jr., Deanna Deel, and Tony Dillon Jr.; sisters, June Martin and husband, Mike, Pat Belton and husband, Chuck; half sister, Nancy Parrish; special cousin, Paul R. Dotson; special brother-in-law, Paul Buckner; special sister-in-law, Joyce Richardson; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. on Friday, October 30, 2009, from Oakey’s North Chapel with the Rev. Don Baldwin officiating. Interment with Military Honors will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, October 29, 2009, at Oakey’s North Chapel, 540-362-1237.
