Darlene Bishop Obituary

Darlene Gearheart Barnes Bishop, of Christiansburg, Va., went to be with the Lord on Friday, October 30, 2009, after a long battle with cancer. She was preceded in death by her first husband, W.L. "Doug" Barnes; husband, Robert I Bishop; and very close friend, Marvin L. Dickerson. She is survived by her sons, Donald Eugene Barnes (Sylvia), Ricky Lee Barnes (Debbie); daughter, Drema Elizabeth Duncan (Barry); four grandchildren, Suzanne (Kevin), Amanda, Ashlee and Andrena; two great-grandchildren, Rachel and Nicholas; sister, Bonnie G. Fisher (Robert); four nieces and seven great-nieces and nephews. Darlene was born and raised in Christiansburg and had many friends. She kept many children over the years and would often mention them in her life stories. She was a member of the local Moose Lodge and enjoyed being with all of them. Per her request, there will be no viewing or visitation. A graveside service for family and friends will be noon on Monday in Sunset Cemetery conducted by Pastor Paul DeGastyne. The family wishes that memorial donations be made to American Cancer Society or Relay For Life. The Bishop family is being served by Horne Funeral Service, Christiansburg.
