Joseph Marvin Saunders

Joseph Marvin Saunders, 94, of Vinton, Va., went to be with the Lord on Monday, November 2, 2009. He was born on October 12, 1915, in Roanoke to the late Joseph Phillip Saunders and Rosa Belle Maxey Saunders and is predeceased by his wife of 63 years, Cathleen B. Saunders; two brothers, Paris H. Saunders and Clyde W. Saunders; and three sisters, Frances W. Dickerson, Helen K. Miller, and Ruth M. Motley. Mr. Saunders served in the 124th Cavalry during World War II. He was a superintendent for many years with English Construction Company building schools, hospitals and factories. Later he worked in residential construction. Those left to cherish his memory are his son, Clinton Marvin Saunders, of Vinton; his daughter, Joyce Ann Johnson and her husband, David, of Vinton; three grandchildren, Jason Saunders and Aaron Johnson, both of Vinton, and Kellie Saunders Moumouris, of Tavares, Fla.; one great-grandson, Gabe Moumouris; brother-in-law, J. Marshall Burrows, of WinstonSalem, N.C.; three sistersin-law, Ruby B. Kincaid and Jeanette Burrows-Holt, both of Vinton, and Pat B. Turner, of Salem; and numerous nieces and nephews. Graveside funeral services will be conducted 3 p.m. on Friday, November 6, 2009, at Mountain View Cemetery with the Rev. Joseph Peters officiating.
