Stanley Woods Obituary

Stanley Lee Woods, 88, of Newport (Craig County), Va., went to be with the Lord on Tuesday afternoon, November 3, 2009, in the care of Heritage Hall Nursing home in Blacksburg. Born in Craig County on October 1, 1921, he was the son of the late John R. and Allie Huffman Woods. He worked for Celanese in Narrows and retired from the Hercules in 1974. He was a member and Deacon of the Level Green Christian Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Louise H. Woods; one brother, Wesley Woods; and three nieces, Bonnie Sowers, Debbie Link and Connie Athey. He leaves to cherish his memory a son and daughter-in-law, Rickey and Debbie Woods, of Sinking Creek, Craig County; a daughter and son-in-law, Florence and Dennis Huffman of Sinking Creek, Craig County; daughter and son-inlaw, Linda and John Lee, of New Castle; grandson, Jonathan Lee; one granddaughter, Tanya Ingram and her husband, Tommy; great-granddaughter, Laurana Ingram; brother, Carl S. Woods, of Newport; one sister, Edith W. Smith and her husband, Albert; and several nieces and nephews. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the all the staff at Heritage Hall for the love and care given to our Dad, you always knew how to make him grin. Also a special thanks to Southern Care Hospice. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Level Green Christian Church, 3388 Cumberland Gap Road, Newport, Va. 24128. Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. on Thursday, November 5, 2009, in the Level Green Christian Church with Pastor Mike Whittaker officiating. Burial will follow in the Level Green Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Kendall Funeral Home at 605 Snidow Street, Pembroke from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, November 4, 2009. Florence, I am so sorry to hear about your father....I know how much you loved him. I am in South Carolina until December and won't get by to see you, but you are in my thoughts and prayers.
