Wesley Martin

Wesley (W.F.) Martin, 83, of Bassett, Va., died on Friday, November 6, 2009, at Moorehead Memorial Hospital in Eden, N.C. Born on August 30, 1926, in Stanleytown, he was the son of the late Stephen A. Martin and the late Estelle Fulcher Martin. W.F. was also preceded in death by his first wife, Frances Spencer Martin; son, Wesley "Donnie" Martin; brother, James Ralph Martin; and sister, Annie Mae Turner. He was a member of Valley Drive Baptist Church for many years. W.F. was in the United States Army during World War II. Surviving is his wife, Loma Martin, of the home; two sons, Timothy D. Martin, of Richmond, and Daryl B. Martin, of Bassett, President and Co-owner of Bassett Funeral Service. Also surviving are two stepsons, Steve Mitchell, of Bassett, and Roger Mitchell, of Bassett; and one stepdaughter, Patsy Hopkins. Mr. Martin has one grandchild; six step grandchildren; several step great-grandchildren; one brother, John Shockley Martin, of Figsboro; three sisters, Margaret M. Dodson, of Norfolk, Marie M. Gibson, of Collinsville, and Libby M. Shelton, of Stuart; and several nieces and nephews. W.F. had a special caregiver, Angelena Martin, of Bassett. Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 8, 2009, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Bassett Funeral Service, 3665 Fairystone Park Highway, Bassett and at other times at the home of his son, Daryl B. Martin, 243 Canary Road, Bassett. Funeral Services will be conducted 2 p.m. on Monday, November 9, 2009, in the South Chapel of Bassett Funeral Service with the Rev. Bobby Rakes and the Rev. Doby Salmons officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Hermon Church of the Brethren Church Cemetery with Full Military Honors conducted by the Martinsville and Henry County Honor Guard.
