Bruce Harnsberger Obituary

Bruce L. (Lyn) Harnsberger Jr. 71, of Salem, Va., passed away on Tuesday, November 10, 2009. He was born on June 21, 1938, in Botetourt County, Va., to the late Bruce L. Sr. and Helen P. "Brugh" Harnsberger. Bruce worked with the civil service for seven years and was a postal clerk for the USPS where he retired with 31 years of loyal service. In 1985 Bruce was diagnosed with Amyloidosis and has been under the care of the Mayo Clinic ever since. He enjoyed life and loved hiking, reading and listening to classical music. One of his favorite artists was Mozart. Bruce was preceded in death by his parents, Bruce L. Sr. and Helen P. "Brugh" Harnsberger; and a sister, Harriet Harnsberger. Bruce is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Shirley Adams Harnsberger; his brother, Hugh Harnsberger and his wife, Betty, of Botetourt County; his sister, Elaine Harnsberger; special greatnieces, Carly, Caryn and Jennifer; also numerous other nieces, nephews; and many special friends. A memorial service celebrating Bruce's life will be held 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 14, 2009, at Lotz Salem Chapel. The family will receive friends prior to the service at 10 a.m. A luncheon will follow the service at noon at the Lotz Funeral Chapel and all who knew Bruce are invited to attend. The family would like to express a very special thank you to the staff at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, M.N., Lewis Gale Medical Center, and Good Samaritan Hospice. In lieu of flowers, all memorial donations may be made to the Amyloidosis Foundation, 7151 W. Main St., Suite #2, Clarkson, Mich. 48346 or the American Cancer Society, 2840 Electric Road, Suite 106, Roanoke, Va. 24018 in Bruce's memory. Arrangements are entrusted to Lotz Funeral Chapel, Salem, Va., 540-389-9208.

In my opinion, Bruce was a good man and a hard worker for the USPS. It was always a pleasure to share his friendship.
