Barbara Cox Obituary

Barbara L. Cox, 73, of Troutville, Va.,, went to be with the Lord on Monday, November 9, 2009. She follows her husband, David A. Cox, who retired from Norfolk Southern Railroad. He passed away on September 26, 2009. Barbara graduated from Tipton High School, Tipton, Ind., in 1953 and worked for the Tipton Tribune before marrying David in June of 1956. The couple were married for 53 years. Barbara's life was busy with her grandchildren and their diverse activities. Raised on a farm in Indiana, she continued her love of gardening. She enjoyed displaying her skills as a champion Bocce player. Barbara formed a close bond with the Women's Fellowship group at Woodland Church. She was a devoted member of Gospel Light Baptist Church where she participated in the Ladies Bible Study group, Women of the World, and the Young Hearts. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her parents, Erich and Jean Rode; and a brother, Gerald Rode. She is survived by her son, Michael, his wife, Laurie, and their children, K. Marshall, Nicole, Jonathan, Isaac and Olivia; her daughter, Nancy; daughter, Lynn, her husband, Randy, and their children, Brandon and Kelyn; daughter, Melissa and her children, David and Katrina; brothers and sisters, Jeannine and Jackie Miller, Evelyn and Maury Howery, Allen and Kay Rode, Eileen and Galen Eberhart, and Dennis Rode; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family wishes to express their gratitude to everyone who sent cards and prayers during their difficult time of our father's passing and our mother's illness. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Good Samaritan Hospice, 2408 Electric Road, Roanoke, Va. 24018 or the American Cancer Society, 2840 Electric Road, Suite 106A, Roanoke, Va. 24018. A graveside service will be held 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, November 14, 2009, at the Trinity Cemetery with Pastor Earl Clemmons officiating. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon at Oakey's East Chapel, 540-977-3909.

Dear Cox Family,
Barbara was such a wonderful lady. She made me and my family feel so welcome when we started at Gospel Light. Barbara was such a blessing to our prayer group.
She was proud and loved her family so much.
We will miss her and we look forward to seeing her once again when God calls us home too.
