Frank Canestrari Obituary

Frank Canestrari, of Roanoke, Va., died peacefully in his sleep on Sunday, November 15, 2009. Frank was devoted to his family. His son, Michael, had 26 years to enjoy the richness and mentoring of his loving father. Michael brought his father great joy. A highly ethical man, Frank's integrity and strength made him Nancy's "Rock." Frank, president of NewBold Corporation, was dedicated to his job and was an inspiration to those around him. He respected and admired the people he worked with and the NewBold family was an important part of his life. Frank was a formidable man loved by many and we mourn his passing. Frank was preceded in death by his beloved father, Giuseppe; and leaves behind his mother, Valentina, in Toronto; uncles and cousins in Italy, and many friends who will cherish his memory. Viewing will be held on Wednesday, November 18, 2009, at Oakey's South Chapel from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m., with a funeral service there at noon on Thursday, November 19, 2009. The Rev. Greg Fleshman will officiate. Reception to follow at the home of dear friends Robert and Laura Scott at 4965 Fox Ridge Road, Roanoke. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 2728 Colonial Ave., Suite 2, Roanoke, Va. 24015 in memory of Frank's late father.

The news of Franks passing is truely shocking. I new him as a compassionate and understanding leader while at Datacard Canada. In 1990 while working for Datacard, I was in a major car accident in Vancouver. Frank flew out to Vancouver to see me in the hospital and told me not to worry, that my job would be safe while recuperating. It meant quite a lot to have the leader of the company come out to see me. We need more leaders like Frank.
My condolances to the family.

I had the pleasure of working with Frank for a couple of years at DataCard Canada and during that time I quickly realized what an intelligent person he was. His dedication and motivation were unmatched. But beyond that I knew how much he loved his family. Several times I picked Frank up at his home and we drove to work together and it was evident how much he loved his wife and son. It was clear in the way he responded to them when he left for work and in the conversations we had along the way to the office. My deepest condolences to Nancy and Micheal. May you rest in peace Frank.

I met Frank in 1983 when I joined AFI, and had many terrific years working with him. Frank was an extremely smart person, driven and motivated to succeed. I learned many lessons from him and cherished the friendship that developed. Through email I have been able to keep in contact with him over the years and am extremely thankful for this. To Franks family, please accept my sincerest condolences at this very sad and shocking news. He will be missed very much indeed.

To Michael and Nancy, I am so sorry for your lost at this time. Frank was my heart and the best manager a person could work for. When I left NewBold, I had to leave when he was not there so that I did not have to say good bye to him. It is so hard to say good bye now and I pray that God give you both peace and comfort during this time. I Love you both just as I loved Frank. Michael, I always called you my Michael since you was young and my neice Breasha took so well to you at Clara and Waynes house that summer. You all are in my prayers.

You have my deepest sympathy. I had a great deal of respect for Frank. He will be greatly missed.
