Carl Atkins Aker Jr.

Carl Atkins Aker Jr., 69, died on Tuesday, November 17, 2009, at his home in Rural Retreat, Va. He was born in Smyth County to the late Carl and Lula Mae Aker. Besides his parents, he was also preceded in death by a son, Timothy; and a brother, Claude. He loved the outdoors and especially farming. He is survived by one daughter, Coreitha Carty and husband, John, of Newport News, Va.; two sons, David Aker and Michael Aker, of Rural Retreat; one sister, Rosemary Blevins and husband, Lowell, of Abingdon, Va.; one brother, John L. Aker and wife, Nancy, of Roanoke, Va.; one sister-inlaw, Frances McAmis, of Greenville, Tenn.; four grandchildren, Stephanie Hall, Jennifer Hamm, Coty Aker, and Rebecca Aker; five greatgrandchildren; several nieces and nephews; special friend, Debbie; and special pet, Rascal. The family will receive friends on Friday, November 20, 2009, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel. Funeral services will be held 8 p.m. with the Reverend Mike Sage officiating. Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 21, 2009, at Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the family at www.seaverbrown.com.
