Pauline Porter Obituary

Pauline Hampton Porter, 93, of Independence, Va., a resident of Waddell Nursing & Rehab Center, Galax, Va., passed away Wednesday, November 18, 2009, at the center. She was the widow of J. Hale Porter. She was born on September 4, 1916, at Independence to the late Andrew and Mary Elizabeth Myers Hampton. Surviving are her daughter, Sue P. Bryant, of Independence, Va.; two grandchildren and their spouses, Becky and John Capecci, of Charlotte, N.C., and Doug and Kathy Bryant ,of Galax, Va.; and five greatgrandchildren, Andrew Capecci, Mark Capecci, Sam Bryant, Molly Bryant and John Bryant. The body is at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home, Independence, Va. A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 21, 2009, at the Pleasant Grove Cemetery, Independence, Va. The Rev. Terri Johnson Gregory will officiate. There will not be a visitation at the funeral home, however friends may call at the home of Sue P. Bryant, 833 E. Main St., Independence, Va. In lieu of flowers, the family sincerely requests donations be made to Independence Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 607, Independence, Va. 24348 or to the Independence Volunteer Fire Department, Independence, Va. 24348 or the Memorial Fund of First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 219, Independence, Va. 24348. Following the graveside service the family will gather at the First United Methodist Church for food and fellowship. ReinsSturdivant Funeral Home, Independence, Va., is serving the Porter family.
