Clifton Hogan Obituary

Clifton (Sack) Conard Hogan, 81, of Roanoke, Va., passed away on Thursday, November 26, 2009. He was born in Arista, W.Va., on May 13, 1928, but spent most of his life in Roanoke. He was preceded in death by his father, Jacob Cornelius Hogan; and mother, Dottie Mae Barksdale Hogan Cash. Mr. Hogan served in the United States Navy during World War II and later in the 116th Infantry of the Virginia National Guard. An avid outdoorsman, he had a lifelong love of hunting and fishing. His hunting trips included those to Alaska, Colorado and Wyoming. He was a life member of the National Rifle Association. For many years he worked for the Norfolk and Western Railway in the Call Office at Shaffer's Crossing. Surviving are his wife of 58 years, June Windle Hogan; daughter, Nancy Diane Hogan Darby and husband, Michael Foster Darby, of Vinton; son, Charles Clay Hogan, of Franktown, Colo.; granddaughters, Shawn Marie McCarty and Catherine Alexandra Laucella; a very special great-grandson, Jacob Clifton Benson, all of Roanoke; and brother and sister-in-law, Rodman R. (Johnny) Hogan and Betty Jean Brickey Hogan, of Roanoke. Funeral services will be conducted 3 p.m. on Sunday, November 29, 2009, at Simpson Funeral Home, 5160 Peters Creek Road by the Rev. Larry Sprouse and the Rev. Brenda Rowe. The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, November 28, 2009, at Simpson Funeral Home, 540-366-0707.
