Neil Holcomb Obituary

Neil Hampton Holcomb, 40, went to be with his Lord peacefully at his home in Fork Mountain, Va., after a long battle with cancer on Saturday, November 28, 2009. Neil was a member of the Fork Mountain United Methodist Church and loved his family, friends, bluegrass music, hunting, racing, driving fast cars and building motors. Neil was a faithful supporter of the Franklin County Relay For Life. He brought love, job and laughter to everyone he met. He was a devoted father, son, brother, uncle and friend. Preceding him in death were his grandparents, Kermit and Lucy Holcomb, Reggie and Mearl McGhee. Surviving are his daughter, the light of his life, Vandalina Manhattan Holcomb; parents, K. Wayne and Sherry Holcomb; brother, Kenneth W. Holcomb, Jr. (Barbara); sister, Sarah H. Campbell (friend, Kenny Weddle); sister, Mearl "Buggs" M. Boswell (Lee); brother, Reggie R. McGhee (Jenny); nieces and nephews, Blake Holcomb (Katie), Beth H. Adkins (Chris), Kimberly Holcomb, Daniel Buckner, Lenzie Boswell, Emily Boswell and Mahaley McGhee; special friends, Richard, Stacey, and Verity Stanfield; and his numerous friends and buddies too many to name but will never be forgotten. The family would like to say thanks for the thoughts and prayers from Neil's many friends he met along the way. The family would like to extend thanks to Dr. Schertz, his staff and the nurses on the 10th floor oncology at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital for their care and kindness. Funeral services will be conducted from Flora Funeral Chapel 2 p.m. Tuesday, December 1, 2009 with the Rev. Bobby Shively officiating. Interment will follow in Henry Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be made to the American Cancer Society, 3195 Sontag Road, Rocky Mount, Virginia 24151. Friends may call after 3 p.m. Monday with his family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m. at Flora Funeral Service, Rocky Mount. www.florafuneral service.com

Neil i just can't put into words what i would like to say other than we will miss your smiling face each day and all the off the wall conversations we had. But, you know each time i see your little baby VANDALINA i will still see and share a part of you. now, i don't know who will keep up with my money and all of those pocketbooks you promised. i'll have to share with vandalina someday about our trip to floyd on old christine while her mommie was working. satch and i will never forget you. GOD took a real angel home. May you rest in peace until we see you again.

Neil was one of my best friends growing up. We had a lot of fun riding motorcycles together. I was in Neils wedding and he was in my wedding. My deepest sympathy to the family.

am lifting the family up in prayers. Neil was my first friend as a child and my most fondest childhood memory was him coming over with his mom (we were about 3 or 4 years old) and sitting on my toy box eating powder donuts and drinking Coca Cola out of the glass bottles. Neil will be missed greatly.
