James Chaney Obituary

James Ernest Chaney Jr., 70, of Salem, Va., went to be with our Lord on Thursday, December 3, 2009, a month after a diagnosis of brain cancer. He was preceded in death by his parents, James E. and Margaret M. Chaney. Surviving are his wife of 39 years, Jennifer Self Chaney; children, Jeffrey Chaney, Janey Chaney (Bob Hart), Linda (Johnny) Harris, and Brenda (Robert) Gann; sisters, Margaret Bess and Linda Palmer; mother-in-law, Audrey Self; sister-in-law, Joanne Paugh; grandchildren, Alexandra, Jayden, Sebastian, and Izabela Hart, Andrew Ryan, and Justin Harris, and Jenny (Jason) King; and greatgrandchildren, Braden and Caylee King. The family sincerely thanks the kind and caring professionals at Salem Health and Rehabilitation Center. In lieu of flowers or plants, please donate to a local charity or to Calvary United Methodist Church, 845 Hemlock Road, Salem, Va. 24153. The funeral service will be held at noon on Monday, December 7, 2009, at Oakey's South Chapel with Pastors Tim Gearheart and Bob West officiating. Interment will follow at Fair View Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday, December 6, 2009, from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. at Oakey's South Chapel, 540-989-3131.

Jimmy will be missed. He was such a faithful son, brother, husband, and father. I will remember his sense of humor and how he took care of Nannie.
