Clara Rogers Obituary

Clara Jones Rogers, 98, of Roanoke, Va., passed away on Thursday, December 3, 2009. Mrs. Rogers was a lifelong member of First Church of the Brethren where she taught Sunday school for many years. Clara died unexpectedly in her home after enjoying a lifetime of good health. At the age of 16 she went to work at American Viscose where she met her husband of 42 years, James S. Rogers. Together they owned and operated Roger's One Hour Cleaners. Clara continued to run the business after his death until her retirement at age 68. Clara loved to laugh, dance, and sing. She loved to travel, especially to the beach. She was a member of the Lakeside Garden Club and enjoyed gardening and her flowers but most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family. She was the light of our lives and inspiration to all who knew her. Left to cherish her memory are daughters, Joyce R. Evans Shields, of Vinton, and Sharon R. Lipscomb, of Roanoke; grandchildren, Lori Evans Rosen (Carl), of Roanoke, James R. Shields (Tabatha), of Vinton, and Michael Cary Lipscomb II (Kristie) of Roanoke; greatgrandchildren, Hailey Clara and Trey Lipscomb; and niece and nephew, Judy Baird Holt (Ronnie), of Vinton, and Michael S. Ferguson (Ann), of Roanoke. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. on Monday, December 7, 2009, at Oakey's South Chapel with the Rev. Dava Hensley officiating. Interment will follow in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 2 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, December 5, 2009, and from 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, December 6, 2009, at Oakey's South Chapel, 540-989-3131.

I loved Clara. She was always so special to be around. I was so blessed to have known her. She was always there for my family. I loved to talk to her. I could not believe she was her age. I would always ask her How do you do it? Energy where does it come from? She was blessed and I will think of her always. Cary and Sharon you are Very Special in my Heart. I will always love you. Cary and Sharon, we are so sorry to hear about Clara. She was an awesome trooper of a lady who could run with the best of them, but God called her home. Just know that she is in a much better place and you know she is up there looking down wanting y'all to celebrate her incredible 98 year life that was filled with so many happy memories. Myrtle Beach and Kings Dominion just to name a few. I have never met someone with more energy and such a great outlook on life. She will be missed. Y'all take care and know we are praying and thinking about y'all today. We love you, Drew Tonya, Andrew, Miller, Alex, Ally Ayers... : )

Dear Joyce, Sharon, and families,
Our prayers are with each of you as you grieve your Mom's death. Aunt Clara was always the same 'bubbly' self every time I saw her. She will be missed.
