Patricia Shuey Obituary

Patricia Ellen (Tricia) Shuey, 59, of 587 Hill Top Drive, Staunton, Va., passed away on Sunday, December 6, 2009, at her residence. Ms. Shuey was born on November 3, 1950, in Staunton, a daughter of Fred L. Shuey Sr. and the late Bessie Lee (Daugherty) Shuey. Tricia was a substitute teacher for the Augusta County School System and Grace Christian School. She was an active member of Mt. Tabor Lutheran Church where she served on the Council, Evangelism Committee and the Education Committee. She loved to sew and "teaching children to read" was her aspiration. In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by a brother, Fred L. Shuey Jr. Surviving are two daughters, Tonya N. Ferguson, of Blue Ridge, and Michelle R. Ferguson, of Bridgewater; a brother, Jeffery F.A. "Jeff" Shuey and his wife, Sarah, of Staunton; a sister-in-law, Mary Shuey, of Baltimore, Md.; and number of nieces and nephews. Tricia was known as "Tee Tee" to her very close and special nephew, Forrest Shuey. She is also survived by nephews, Travis Callison and Jake Shuey; and nieces, Amanda Shuey, Mary Beth Petersen, Ann and Jenny Collins. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, December 10, 2009, at Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory and other times at her residence. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. on Friday, December 11, 2009, at Mt. Tabor Lutheran Church by Pastor Jo Ann Bunn. Burial will be private. Honorary pallbearers will be Forrest Shuey, Travis Callison, Meade Shuey, Jake Shuey, Amanda Shuey, Mary Beth Petersen, Jenny Collins and Ann Collins. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Riverheads High School, Patricia Shuey Scholarship Fund for Education, Attn: Cherie Armstrong, 19 Howardsville Road, Staunton, Va. 24401. Contributions are to be used for seniors who desire to further their education in the teaching profession. Arrangements are being handled by Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 230 Frontier Drive in Staunton, Va. Online condolences may be expressed to the family at www.coffmanfuneralhome.net.
