Doris Grimes Obituary

Doris Hancock (nee Hodges) Grimes, 99, of Pittsgrove, N.J., passed away on Wednesday, December 9, 2009, at her home with her family by her side. Doris was a teacher for 30 years, retiring in 1975 from the Monroe Twp. Board of Education in Williamstown. She enjoyed reading, crocheting, embroidery and volunteering at Kennedy Hospital in Washington Twp. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Roanoke, Va., and NJEA. Predeceased by her grandson, Matthew Hancock, she is survived by her children, William H. Hancock Jr. (Van), of Roanoke, Frank M. Hancock (Mary Alice) ,of Check, Va., Jimmie A. Hancock (Terri), of Radford, Va., Media E. Rains (her late husband, Earl), of Pittsgrove, and Sharon H. Matlack (Rudy), of Marlton, N.J.; 11 grandchildren, Will, Dee, Sam, Marty, Mike, Stacey, Mark, Bo, Robert, Luke, and Wade; and 12 greatgrandchildren, Corey, Danni, J.M., Alex, Gabrielle, Nicholas, Sierra, Morgan, Lily, Garry, Ben, and Abby. Doris loved all of her family and will be greatly missed. Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Memorial Service 3 p.m. on Saturday, December 12, 2009, in the Mathis Funeral Home, 43 N. Delsea Drive, Glassboro, N.J., 856-881-6766. Friends may visit with the family after 2:30 p.m. at the funeral home. The family would appreciate contributions to American Heart Association, 1 Union Street, Suite 301, Robbinsville, N.J. 08691.
