Sarah Blankenship Obituary

Sarah Lillian Blankenship, 76, of Roanoke County, Va., went to be with her Lord on Sunday afternoon, December 13, 2009. She was a long time faithful member of Red Hill Church of the Brethren, where she served as Deaconess and had also helped in other activities at the church. Sarah loved her family dearly, enjoyed her many pets, and showed her love and friendship to everyone. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ira and Della McGuire, and is survived by her devoted and loving husband of 57 years, Carl (Polly) L. Blankenship; her children, Rhonda Gail Scott and husband, Jeff, Doug Blankenship and wife, Sonya, and Lewis Blankenship and wife, Rosemary, all of Roanoke; her grandchildren, Scott, Danielle, and Matthew Blankenship; her brothers, Stewart McGuire and wife, Martha, of Roanoke, and Wayne McGuire and wife, Nancy, of Vinton; her sistersin-law, Mary and Bea Sink, both of Roanoke; and numerous nieces and nephews. Special thanks to her nurse at Roanoke Memorial Hospital, Leigh Ann, for all her care and concern for Sarah. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. on Wednesday, December 16, 2009, at Red Hill Church of the Brethren with the Rev. Tony Emmons officiating. Interment will be held in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, December 15, 2009, from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 9 p.m. at Oakey's South Chapel, 540-989-3131.
