Alice Weeks Obituary

Alice Marjorie Brewer Weeks, 84, of Salem, went home to be with Jesus on Saturday, December 19, 2009. She was the retired owner of A & M Floral Gallery and was a member of Shenandoah Baptist Church. She loved the Word of God and taught ladies' Sunday School classes for many years at Calvary Baptist Church in Salem. She shared her passion for the beach with her family and enjoyed many happy hours by the ocean with them. After a diagnosis of Alzheimer's Disease, the last 3 1/2 years of her life were spent in the comfort of her home being lovingly cared for by her family. Throughout the disease process, she still maintained her positive spirit and enjoyed the gift of laughter with her family. She was a treasure and inspiration to many. Preceding her in death were her parents, Ambrose Clifton and Lola Mae Brewer, husband, James Russell Weeks, brother, William A. Brewer and grandson, James Matthew Townsend. Her surviving family includes her daughters, Michelle Gillispie, Yvonne K. Townsend and husband, Rev. John Townsend, and Marlene Krafft Beckner and husband, Daryl; grandchildren, Shaun Patrick Carroll, John Clinton Townsend, Benjamin Lucas Townsend, Timothy Andrew McGoy, Jeremy James McGoy, Darren Edward Beckner, Emily Anne Beckner, and Elizabeth Jane Beckner; nine great-grandchildren; brother, Charles Max Brewer and wife, Rebecca; and sister-in-law, Peggy Brewer Yale. The family will receive friends on Monday, December 21, 2009 from 6 to 8 p.m. in the John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, December 22, 2009 at 2 p.m. at Shenandoah Baptist Church in Roanoke. Interment will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. The Rev. Bob Alderman will officiate. Online condolences to the family may be made at johnmoakey.com. The Weeks family is being served by John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem, 389-5441.
