John Hicks Obituary

John H. Hicks, 61, of Thaxton, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, December 21, 2009. He was a member of Sandy Level Baptist Church, was employed by United Parcel Service and Southern States for 23 years, and was preceded in death by his father, William Harvey Hicks and a sister, Patsy Marie Hicks. John is survived by his wife, Dell C. Hicks; daughter, Tabitha Martin, of Vinton; grandson, Matthew Charles Shires, of Vinton; his mother, Elsie K. Hicks, of Roanoke; brothers and sisters-in-law, Leonard L. and Karen Hicks, of Vinton, William Edward and Geraldine Hicks, of Blue Ridge, Larry Wayne and Sandi Hicks, of Thaxton, Robert E. and Sandy Hicks, of Buchanan, Joe and Carolyn Hicks, of Buchanan; sister and brother-in-law, Naomi and John Ashland, of Goodview; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews; and special friends, Bobby Yates, Chad Anderson, and Thad Thomas. A funeral service will be held at 12 noon Wednesday, December 23, 2009 at Oakey's East Chapel with Pastor Tom Moran officiating. Interment will follow in Old Dominion Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Sandy Level Baptist Church, 2554 Sandy Level Rd., Goodview, VA 24095. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Oakey's East Chapel, 540-977-3909.
