James Thomas Johnson

James Thomas (Tom) Johnson, 88, of Rocky Mount, Va., went to be with the Lord on Monday, December 21, 2009. He was born on April 8, 1921, a son of the late Walter Irvin Johnson and Cora Powell Johnson. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Mattie Wray Johnson; six brothers; and one sister. Surviving are his sons and daughters-in-law, James and Patricia Johnson, of Beckley, W.Va., and Charles and Shelia Johnson, of Rocky Mount, Va.; three granddaughters, Lisa (John) Jewers, of Lancaster, Pa., Stephanie (Jeremy) Lawson, of Rocky Mount, Va., and Jennifer (Brian) Hunt, of Beckley, W.Va.; four greatgrandchildren; and one sister, Elsie Johnson Poindexter, of Glade Hill, Va. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. on Wednesday, December 23, 2009, from Flora Funeral Chapel with the Rev. James W. Johnson and the Rev. Mark Stugelmeyer officiating. Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park. The family would like to thank the staff of Fork Mountain Adult Rest Home for the care they provided Tom over the past five and a half years.
